Politics: The FBI Raid of Mar-a-Largo

I was a bit unsure what to call this post. I only wanted to mention Trump’s name in some of the blog posts that I do when every other political post covers him now in this blog so you would know for a fact that this was one of those posts. I won’t do that this time around. This is an event that is in the news now that I might as well cover. I have some things to talk about that I might as well cover in this blog post since I still have yet to finish the one on the results of the 2020 presidential election in my blog on The Good Fight. While I’m hopeful that such a thing will be published before the end of the year (possibly even in November), I should be able to get to some of what I want to cover as I write this post.

Let’s remember that in the absurb and unproven Obamagate conspiracy theory which states that Obama did something that MUST BE PROSECUTED, we learned that at the time, Trump felt that former presidents should, in fact, be charged with crimes. Does he feel the same way now? Of course not. You can never expect consistency from Republican’ts.

Many people are now jumping through hoops as to why they believe that Trump should not be able to be prosecutated at all. Does any of it make sense? Not really. I will go through a lot of the reasons that people have brought up for why he shouldn’t be prosecutated and offer up as many counterpoints to them as I can think of.

The first point that people bring up at the moment as to why they should not prosecute Trump is that it would be someone of the opposing party doing this. But that doesn’t work out. You are saying that any criminal can get away with something if the opposing party has to investigate it. Just because there is an attorney general, that it should be noted that 20 Republican senators voted in favor of, of another party, doesn’t mean that Trump is immune from prosecuation.

It doesn’t matter if this is what a Democratic attorney general would be doing to a Republican president. I doubt that this would matter much in the end. Criminals need to be held accountable. If Democrats can get rid of the corrupt Mike Madigan and Republicans can oust killer Jason Ravnsborg, then it should not matter if something like this crosses party lines. It needs to be done at all costs. If we need an independent prosecutator to do it, so be it. After all, Lisa Madigan stepped aside and it wasn’t long after she left office that her step father Michael wound up being indicted with all of the information coming to light about him. She couldn’t investigate a family member so she did what had to be done.

Do we really expect Republicans to hold Trump accountable for his crimes? I will call it right now: if Trump goes to jail, numerous Republican presidential candidates who will suddenly be in the race immediately will all have the same campaign promise: pardoning Trump. What people will forget is that pardoning often isn’t the wrongly accused getting freedom. It is people who are guilty getting a get out of jail free card. You can’t be pardoned without an admission of guilt. If there is anyone promising to pardon Trump, they are effectively admitting his guilt.

Now if I were a journalist, you would point out that what I’ve done thus far is bury the lead and not talk at all about the title of this blog post. I think that this is relevant as it is important for the FBI to be able to investigate any potential criminal, especially current or former politicians.

The other notable point against charging Trump with any crime is that it would divide the nation. But Trump has done such a good job doing that that I’d be more convinced that not charging him with any crime would divide the nation more. Plus, if Republicans didn’t want Merrick Garland to have power over criminal cases, then they never should be denied him a seat on the Supreme Court where he NEVER would have dealt with them for the rest of his life.

So finally getting to the point of this post without mentioning stuff that I felt had to be said, we get to the point where we have to get to how this relates to what I already said. You see, if you don’t already know this by now, the FBI did a raid of Trump’s resident over potential criminal acts that he may have committed. If you want to find out more about it, check out this article that may have its name changed at some point in time:

What I love most about this is the irony of this all. Irony is often what I love most about anything that gets a Republican’t in trouble. The crime that Trump is accused of breaking is something that he himself made a felony by signing a bill like that into law.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/08/10/trump-fbi-search-surveillance-law/

This gets into one of the few legit complaints that Republicans have about Democrats. During the covid pandemic, a lot of Democratic governors broke their own rules regarding restrictions with how things should be handled versus how they were handled. This is called “rules for thee, not for me.” The most infamous examples of this would be Gavin Newsome, which lead to his recall vote that he ultimately survived. Of course, you are unlikely to hear anything from them now that Trump might have broken a law that he himself made a crime.

I know that we will find out more about this investigation as things go along. But it will take a while for us to know the investigation. Just remember: if Trump is innocent, it shouldn’t matter if he is investigated or not. And they are able to investigate anyone they want to who may have committed any crime.

And it seems odd that many Republicans are against this considering how the FBI might have helped Republican campaigns in the past. Comey reopening the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails in October was a terrible thing to make public. And then we had the whole Hunter Biden laptop story also in October of a presidential election year that was also widely discredited story for the most part in some ways. You’d think that the FBI hates Democrats, but I’m not sure that’s true. I will say that like facebook, they are doing a good job of pissing off both sides of the political aisle.

What is important if we follow Republican talking points is that the same people who think that defunding the police is ridiculous suddenly think that defunding the FBI is okay. I don’t agree with either even as I question if the FBI is neutral or not. We should reform all forms of law enforcement to improve them to be good and better forms of themselves.

And to close this article that has barely if even been on topic, I have the feeling that this will only dominate the news as we have to wonder what beyond absurb reasonings the Republicans will have to say why it is wrong for the FBI to investigate crimes but, you know, only in this one single instance because Trump should be immune from things because fuck you is why.
