This has been in the news this year after the Supreme Court case of Students for Fair Admissions versus Harvard overturned it. I can’t go into as much detail as I want to, but I can give what thoughts I have of this with my limited knowledge.
Basically,
this seems to be yet another in a long line of rulings by the Roberts court
which seeks to overturn long established norms and hope that nothing bad
happens. Now this isn’t set to change any time soon as Republicans won’t rest
until all of the justices are con servatives.
What
is affirmative action? It is people intentionally hiring minorities in order to
make up for the disparities they have had over the years. Well, that is my view
of it which may be wrong. What’s wrong with affirmative action? Apparently it
is racist to the whites that don’t benefit from it. That’s what five white
justices and one black justice thought. One white justice didn’t think that. This
ruling doesn’t affect military academies at the moment.
Liberals
are hating yet another terrible decision by the Supreme Court while Republicans
are loving the terrible things they get done as always. They are even
threatening to sue any and all people who won’t stick with the new decision. We
can hope that potential future lawsuits wind up changing things. Until then,
problems are on the horizon.
