Politics: The Real Definition of Socialism

All one seems to hear over and over again about socialism is that whatever it is must be bad even though you never really hear what it actually is. Many falsely believe that it is the exact same thing as communism, which it is not. Socialism actually has existed just fine in this country for a while. So why is it considered bad? Well, let’s get to what’s going on with it.

Because of socialism, this country has the post office, public schools, firefighters, libraries, the military (every branch), and maybe even more things beyond that. If you are a government employee, you might owe it to socialism. If you are a teacher in a public school, you do for sure owe it to socialism. Yet all socialism is thought of being is bad.

I never heard what conservatives even believe socialism even is. They just always say that whatever it is must be bad. What I’d like to hear from them is a simple explanation of what it is. But I do know what it is. It is when the government runs something and the government is the reason why it exists. Libraries would not be a thing without government aid. Not in the US at least. I’d argue that those that don’t like socialism simply don’t understand what it really is.

The important thing is to remember is what socialism is not. It is not communism. That is such a huge problem and shouldn’t be part of any country. As long as we don’t live under a true and real dictatorship, we can avoid the true perils that socialism might actually cause. This is true based on the idea that people want Democratic socialism and not a socialist dictatorship.

Maybe I’ve made my point or maybe I haven’t. All I know is that socialism isn’t as big a problem as many people think. It has caused problems elsewhere because it goes too far and becomes a dictatorship. If we can avoid that, then there shouldn’t be problems with democratic socialism or the type of universal health care that some people want.
